HONOLULU, HI – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a Honolulu Police Department officer late Tuesday night.
Police said in a news release that the accident occurred at about 11:41 p.m. on Ala Moana Boulevard in the Kakaako area.
Investigators learned that the operator of an electric motorcycle was traveling northbound on the sidewalk of Ilalo Street and entered the eastbound lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard. The motorcyclist struck the vehicle of the police officer, who was going east on Ala Moana Boulevard.
The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, was ejected onto the roadway and was hospitalized in serious condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The police officer was treated for a minor injury.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the e-motorcyclist was among a group of possible assault suspects who police had been trying to stop in the Ala Moana Beach Park area. The rider was arrested and charged for obedience to police officer.
