HALEIWA, HI – A vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in a fatal collision in Haleiwa on Thursday afternoon, reports KITV.
Honolulu police said a 26-year-old man was riding a motorcycle north on Kamehameha Highway in the Pupukea area when the crash happened at about 4:45 p.m.
As the motorcyclist tried to overtake a vehicle, that driver tried to make a left turn onto Ke Nui Road and was hit by the bike.
The motorcycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash but do not suspect that drugs and alcohol were involved.
Kamehameha Highway was closed in the area while emergency crews responded to the wreck.
