HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle that occurred in the Moiliili area on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a police department news release, the accident took place on Kapiolani Boulevard at about 3:17 p.m.
It was reported to the police department’s traffic division that a driver was heading westbound when he initiated a U-Turn and was struck by a motorcycle going west on Kapiolani Boulevard.
The motorcycle rider, a 51-year-old man, was ejected onto the roadway. He was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, investigators said.
The driver of the vehicle, a 67-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
Police said speed does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the incident, though it is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
