HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division and Vehicular Homicide Section are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that took place late Thursday night.
According to a KHON report, a 20-year-old man was riding a motorcycle west on the H-1 Freeway at a high rate of speed when the incident happened at about 11:50 p.m. The motorcycle crashed into the back of a vehicle, and the rider was ejected onto the roadway. He then collided with the zipper lane barrier and hit the back of a truck.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was not injured.
Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash. They have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
