MAUI, HI – A man was killed in a crash while riding his motorcycle on Maui late Saturday night, according to Maui Now.
The victim, a 40-year-old Wailuku man, was riding a Harley-Davidson Sportster west on West Kaahumanu Avenue near Lunalilo Street when the accident occurred at about 11:46 p.m. According to Maui police, the motorcycle rider veered to the right, struck a curb and an embankment, and then collided head-on with the corner of the Ting’s Bridge retaining wall.
The rider, whose name was not released, died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, investigators said.
Police are trying to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
