KALIHI, HI – Honolulu police officers and Emergency Medical Services crews were dispatched to a fatal motorcycle accident early Tuesday morning.
According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, the crash happened on the westbound H1 Freeway at the Airport/Middle Street on-ramp in Kalihi.
Police said a 44-year-old man was riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed at about 1:05 a.m. when he lost control of the bike and crashed into a guardrail. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and died at the scene.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division said it appears that speed was a contributing factor in the incident. The investigation has yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
