KAPOLEI, HI – Honolulu police were dispatched to a fatal motorcycle accident in Kapolei on Sunday evening, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.
Police said a motorcyclist collided with a car at the intersection of Farrington Highway and Waiomea Street in Kapolei just after 7:15 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the car was heading west and made a left turn onto Waiomea Street against a red arrow signal. Her vehicle was broadsided by a motorcycle that was going east on Farrington Highway.
The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the car, a 44-year-old woman, refused treatment at the scene. Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the collision, but it was not immediately clear whether drugs or alcohol played any role.
