KILAUEA, HI — Authorities are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in the area of Kuhio Highway in Kilauea Saturday evening, The Garden Island reports.
The incident involved a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a GMC truck. It happened at the intersection of Kuhio Highway and North Waiakalua Road, where the Kaua‘i Police Department and Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the scene at about 7:30 p.m.
An investigation indicated that a man was riding his motorcycle north on the highway when he crashed into the truck as it tried to make a left turn onto North Waiakalua Road. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not disclosed. The driver of the truck, a 33-year-old Kapa’a man, was not injured.
Kuhio Highway was shut down near North Waiakalua Road in both directions for the crash investigation.
At this point, investigators do not believe that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
