WAIKIKI, HI – A motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision in the Waikiki area last week, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The crash occurred Wednesday morning on Ala Wai Boulevard near the intersection with McCully Street.  According to police, a 59-year-old man was riding a motorcycle westbound at about 9:41 a.m. and was changing lanes when he was struck by a westbound sedan.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.  The driver of the sedan, a 53-year-old man, was not injured and remained at the scene.

Police said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors in the collision, which is under investigation by the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section.
