MAKAWAO, HI – A collision in Makawao on Sunday night sent a motorcycle rider to the hospital with critical injuries, police said.
According to Hawaii News Now, Maui police responded to the scene on Makawao Avenue after the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m.
Police learned that the driver of a pickup truck was pulling out of a parking area when the pickup was struck by a motorcycle. The 28-year-old motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was listed in critical condition. The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It has yet to be determined whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
