HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police said a hit-and-run driver was responsible for a crash that left four people injured on Saturday night.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the incident happened on Kaukonahua Road in the Waialua area. Investigators said that a 21-year-old man was driving south when he collided with an 18-year-old female motorcycle rider at about 7:50 p.m.
The man took off heading north and was trying to overtake southbound traffic when he crashed into another vehicle and then struck a guardrail.
The motorcycle rider was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Three other people were hospitalized in serious condition – the driver of the first vehicle, the 20-year-old man driving the second vehicle, and his 23-year-old female passenger.
Speed appeared to have been a contributing factor in the incident, police said.
