KAILUA, HI – A collision on Pali Highway in the Kaneohe area left a motorcycle rider badly injured on Sunday afternoon, according to a KITV report.
Police said a 21-year-old man lost control of his motorcycle while riding westbound at a high rate of speed at about 2:07 p.m. The motorcycle crashed into a concrete guardrail along the highway.
The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services rushed him to an area hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.
Pali Highway townbound and Kamehameha Highway were shut down for about three hours while the accident scene was being cleared and investigated.
Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the collision, police said, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
