AIEA, HI – A motorcyclist has died following a multi-vehicle accident that occurred recently in Aiea, according to KITV.
The incident happened Sept. 1 along the H-1 East freeway at about 12:30 a.m. According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 19-year-old man on a motorcycle crashed into the back of another motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old man, knocking the 19-year-old off the bike and onto the roadway.
At that point, a 22-year-old driver stopped to help while another driver, heading east, struck the 19-year-old and his motorcycle. After briefly stopping, the unidentified driver fled the scene without helping or providing any information. That person was reportedly driving a silver Chevrolet Impala.
The 19-year-old passed away from his injuries at an area hospital on Thursday. The 23-year-old motorcyclist and a 20-year-old motorcycle passenger were hospitalized in good condition.
Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the accident.
