HONOLULU, HI – A 19-year-old man lost his life last Friday evening, July 26, when he collided with a vehicle while operating a motorcycle near Ala Wai Community Park in Honolulu, reports the Honolulu Police Department.
The fatal incident took place at the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Paani Street, in an area north of Waikiki. First responders were on the scene shortly after 6:20 p.m.
According to a preliminary investigation by the HPD Traffic Division’s Vehicular Homicide Section, the teen motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Kapiolani Boulevard. As he approached the intersection, an eastbound vehicle began making a left turn onto Paani Street. Moments later, the motorcyclist broadsided the turning vehicle, causing the rider to eject onto the roadway.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials noted he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The other driver, a 36-year-old man, was not reported injured.
An investigation remains in progress, but drugs, alcohol, and speed are not suspected factors in the accident.
