Motorcyclist, 18, dies after crashing into concrete barrier in Kapolei

KAPOLEI, HI – The Honolulu Police Department has released details of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred in the Kapolei area late Tuesday night.

A preliminary investigation indicated that an 18-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the Kalaeloa Boulevard off-ramp at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a concrete barrier.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway.  Emergency Medical Services rushed him to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said it appears at this time that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.  It has not yet been determined whether drugs or alcohol played any role.
