MOUNTAIN VIEW, HI – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash at an intersection in Mountain View on Monday evening, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police.

Officers responded to the area of Puhala Street and Hibiscus Street after the incident was reported at 9:48 p.m.  It was determined that the operator of a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle was heading north on Puhala Street when he lost control and veered off the roadway.

The motorcycle struck a tree and the rider was ejected.  He was pronounced dead after being taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center.  The victim was identified as 34-year-old Hapaki Teixeira.

The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the fatal accident, and believes that speed was a contributing factor.
