WAHIAWA, HI – An accident on Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa left a motorcycle rider critically injured, Hawaii News Now reported.

Honolulu police said a 21-year-old man was riding a motorcycle south shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday when he crossed over the center line near Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road.  The motorcycle entered oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the shoulder of the roadway.  He was listed in critical condition after being transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the pickup, a 57-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene of the crash.

Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident but have yet to determine whether drug or alcohol were also involved.
