HONOLULU, HI – A man was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in the Kahaluu area on Friday night, the Honolulu Police Department said.

The vehicle collision took place on Kamehameha Highway at the intersection with Wailehua Road.   The police department’s Traffic Division learned that a motorcyclist was headed south at about 10:37 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound vehicle trying to make a left turn onto Wailehua Road.

The motorcycle rider, a 27-year-old man, was ejected onto the roadway and rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  The other driver involved, a 35-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and said that so far, neither speed, drugs or alcohol appear to have been contributing factors.
