HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department released information regarding a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a moped rider.
The accident occurred Feb. 27 at about 12:25 a.m. on Liliha Street near North King Street, in the Kalihi area.
According to police investigators, a 30-year-old moped rider was traveling southbound on Liliha Street when he was struck from behind by an unidentified motorist. The moped rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services in serious condition.
After the collision the motorist kept going westbound on North King Street without stopping to help or provide information. The driver’s vehicle was later located on Pua Lane, but the driver fled and has not been identified.
The investigation into the crash is continuing, and it was not yet clear whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
