HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police made an arrest following a hit-and-run collision involving a moped in the Waikiki area last week.
The police department reported that the incident happened May 7 at about 10:44 p.m. on Kuhio Avenue near Nahua Street.
Preliminary details indicated that a driver was heading east on Kuhio Avenue when he made a left turn at the intersection of Nahua Street and struck two people riding a moped westbound on Kuhio Avenue. Both occupants of the moped were ejected onto the roadway.
The moped operator, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital by paramedics and was listed in serious condition. Her passenger, a 25-year-old man, refused treatment at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that hit them kept going north on Nahua Street without stopping to help or provide information. The suspected driver, a 42-year-old man, was later located and arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
At this time, investigators believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
