HNOLULU, HI – A moped rider was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Honolulu last week, the Honolulu Police Department said.
The incident took place Sept. 25 on South King Street near the intersection of Alapai Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. Police said a woman was riding a moped eastbound on South King Street when she was sideswiped by a vehicle whose driver was trying to change lanes.
The moped rider, a 42-year-old woman, was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time she was struck. The unidentified motorist kept going east on South King Street after the collision without stopping to help or provide any information.
Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash but it was not clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Anyone with further information was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division.
