HONOLULU, HI – The Honolulu Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning that seriously injured a moped rider.
The collision occurred on Makakilo Drive in Kapolei shortly after 1 a.m., according to Hawaii News Now.
Investigators said a 25-year-old man was traveling northbound on a moped at about 1:12 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The moped rider was thrown onto the roadway and was listed in serious condition after being transported to an area hospital. He was not wearing a helmet at the time the crash occurred.
The motorist involved kept going north on Makakilo Drive after the accident without stopping to help. Anyone with further information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division.
Police have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
