KAUAI, HI – A moped and a sedan were involved in a deadly collision on Kauai last week, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The accident took place April 1 on Kuhio Highway in front of Anahola Marketplace. Kauai police said the driver of a 2012 Toyota sedan, a 77-year-old man, was making a left turn from the highway into the marketplace at about 7:45 p.m.
The Toyota was struck on the side by a moped. The moped rider, identified as 38-year-old Tristen Kuehu of Kapaa, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Toxicology results were pending in the case. Kuhio Highway was shut down in both directions for about two and a half hours during the police investigation.
