WAIKIKI, HI – Honolulu police and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a fatal moped accident in Waikiki on Wednesday night, reports the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

The crash took place along Monsarrat Avenue in Waikiki at about 9:43 p.m.  A police investigation determined that a moped rider was headed east and crashed into the back of a parked, unoccupied vehicle.

The rider, a 30-year-old man, was pinned under the vehicle and was extricated by first responders.  He died after being taken to an area hospital.  The victim was not wearing a helmet when the collision happened.

Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, according to investigators.
