Moped rider dies after being hit by vehicle near Ala Moana

HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu police are investigating an accident near Ala Moana that claimed the life of a moped rider.

Hawaii News Now reports the victim was a man in his 30s.  He was riding a moped Wednesday evening at about 6 p.m. when a vehicle making a turn from Kapiolani Boulevard to Mahukona Street struck him.

The moped rider was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

The 31-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was not injured and stayed at the scene.  At this time, investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
