WAIEHU, HI – Police are investigating a crash in Waiehu Wednesday evening that left a moped rider critically injured.
According to Maui Now, the collision took place on Waiehu Beach Road in the area of Makaʻala Drive.
Investigators learned that a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck and a moped were both headed northwest at 6:19 p.m. when the pickup crashed into the back of the moped. The moped rider, a 56-year-old Kahului man, was thrown from the vehicle and rushed to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
The pickup driver, a 51-year-old man from Wailuku, was not injured. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
