HONOLULU, HI – A man was critically injured in a moped accident in the Kaimuki area on Tuesday night, the Honolulu Police Department said.
The collision occurred on Sierra Drive south of Mikahala Way at about 8:45 p.m. The police department’s traffic division reported that a 34-year-old man was riding a moped south on Sierra Drive when he failed to negotiate a left turn and collided with the curb.
The moped rider was ejected onto a private concrete driveway. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
Investigators looking into the incident have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
