KALIHI, HI – Honolulu police are investigating a hit-and-run collision Saturday night that left a moped rider critically injured.
A report by KITV states that the moped crash occurred at the intersection of North King Street and Kohou Street in the Kalihi area.
Police learned that the moped rider was headed west at about 8:10 p.m. when she entered the intersection and was struck by a vehicle going east on North King Street and turning left at the intersection. The rider, a 53-year-old woman, was ejected onto the roadway. She was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in critical condition. Authorities said she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The driver of the vehicle was reported to have driven north on Kohou Street after the accident without stopping to provide any help or information.
The intersection was shut down in all directions for about two hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated. Police have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
