MAUI, HI – A man who died in a motorcycle accident on Maui Saturday night has been identified by police, according to the Maui News.

The victim was 40-year-old Peter Simon of Wailuku, the Maui Police Department said.

An initial investigation into the incident found that Simon was driving a 2023 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle west on West Kaahumanu Avenue at about 11:46 p.m. when he veered over the solid white fog line near Lunalilo Street.  The motorcycle hit a curb and an embankment, before crashing head-on into the retaining wall for Tings Bridge.

Simon, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.  It is not yet clear whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
