HAIKU, HI – A motorcycle accident late Sunday night claimed the life of a young man from Maui, according to a KITV report.
Investigators said 19-year-old Koa Hutton of Haiku was riding a Kawasaki off-road motorcycle east on Haleakala Highway when the incident took place shortly after 11 p.m. A driver traveling east in a 2012 Acura sedan rear-ended the motorcycle near mile post 37 west of Keahua Road.
Hutton was thrown from the motorcycle, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Acura driver, a 24-year-old Pukalani woman, was not injured. She was wearing her seat belt at the time.
