HONOLULU, HI – A scooter rider was injured in a collision with a Honolulu Police Department officer last week, police said.

The incident took place Thursday night on Farrington Highway near Leihoku Street in the Waianae area.  An initial police investigation determined that a 29-year-old man was riding a scooter at about 8:15 p.m. and attempted to cross multiple lanes of Farrington Highway outside of a marked crosswalk.

The rider entered the path of a police officer heading west on Farrington Highway and was struck by the vehicle.   The pedestrian was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital in serious condition.  The officer was not injured in the scooter collision.

Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
