WAIALUA, HI – Honolulu police have released details regarding a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred in the Waialua area on Monday afternoon.
The crash happened on Farrington Highway at about 5:24 p.m. It was reported to the police department’s Traffic Division that a driver was heading south on the highway and making a left turn into Mokuleia Beach Park. At the same time, a motorcyclist was going north at a high rate of speed and broadsided the turning vehicle.
The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, police said.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, and his passenger, a 29-year-old man, were not injured and stayed at the scene.
The investigation indicates that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
