HONOLULU, HI – Police said two teenage girls were injured when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Kauai, Hawaii News Now reports.

The victims, ages 15 and 13, were walking across Poipu Road near the Poipu Beach Athletic Club Saturday night when the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m.

The two girls were struck by a pickup truck heading east on Poipu Road.  They were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where they were listed in critical condition.

Investigators said the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and abandoned the pickup in the parking lot of a hotel.

The alleged driver, 25-year-old Noah Alejandro of Kauai, was reported to have turned himself in to police the following morning.  He was arrested on several charges, including first-degree negligent injury, driving under the influence, and recklessness.
