HONOLULU, HI – A man crossing North Nimitz Highway in Honolulu was killed in a pedestrian accident on Sunday night, KITV reported.
The fatal crash happened near the airport at about 9:25 p.m. Investigators said the man was crossing multiple lanes of traffic when he was first struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 66-year-old man. As he lay on the roadway, he was hit again by a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 62-year-old Eteuati Tutuvanu. Police said he was outside of a crosswalk at the time he was crossing the roadway.
Both drivers remained at the scene. The two, and a 66-year-old female passenger in the first car, were not injured. Police are continuing their investigation, and said that speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factors.
