KAIMUKI, HI – Honolulu police and paramedics were called to a moped accident Friday morning that left a man critically injured, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
The incident occurred on Waialae Avenue near Kapahulu Avenue in the Kaimuki area. According to police, a 56-year-old man was riding a moped east at about 8:41 a.m. when he drifted into the adjacent eastbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by a 73-year-old woman.
The moped rider, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was ejected onto the roadway. He was transported to an area hospital by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and was listed in critical condition.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the collision and said that so far it does not believe that speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors.
