KONA, HI – A driver involved in a traffic collision in Kona last month has now been charged in the case, Hawaii News Now reports.
The incident, captured on dashcam video, occurred May 19 shortly after 10 a.m. on Queen Kaahumanu Highway outside the Kohanaiki Minit Stop.
A sedan was seen crashing into the back of a pickup truck that was stopped for a traffic light. The pickup truck driver, 68-year-old MaryGail Oh, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of brain, neck and spinal injuries.
The alleged driver of the sedan, Miguel Lara Romo, has been charged with inattention to driving. He is due to be arraigned later this month.
The report said Lara Romo has been involved in two other traffic-related incidents over the past six years, including a speeding violation two months ago.
