HONOLULU, HI – A man has been charged in connection with a crash that injured a bicyclist in Honolulu recently, KITV reported.
35-year-old Anthony Corpuz was indicted by an Oahu grand jury on a charge of second-degree attempted murder for the April 11 incident.
Corpuz allegedly struck a 46-year-old bicyclist with his car while driving on Kuwili Street. The bike rider was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.
The charge against Corpuz carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole. “This charge involves serious harm to an innocent member of the public, and we want to thank the Honolulu Police Department for their swift investigation and dedication to public safety,” said Honolulu Prosecutor Steve Alm.
After hitting the bicyclist, police said Corpuz allegedly ran a red light and hit another vehicle, which then struck a 37-year-old woman standing with her dog at the intersection of Hotel Street and Alakea Street. Corpuz was charged separately with first-degree negligent injury in that collision, which remains under investigation.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 54-year-old man, and the woman were both seriously injured.
