NORTH KONA, HI – A man was critically injured when his pickup truck was involved in a wreck in North Kona early Friday morning, KITV reports.
The accident happened north on Old Mamalahoa Highway north of Pu’uanahulu. According to the Hawaii Island Police Department, the driver of a 2009 Nissan Frontier pickup was headed north at about 1:19 a.m. when the vehicle crossed over the double line near the 17-mile marker and went off the roadway.
The Nissan went back onto the highway, collided with a rock embankment, and then overturned. The driver, a 75-year-old Kailua-Kona man, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
