Man, 21, critically injured in moped accident near University of Hawaii campus

HONOLULU, HI – A man was rushed to the hospital early Tuesday morning after he was involved in a moped accident in Honolulu, police said.

According to Hawaii News Now, the crash occurred near the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus at about 2:10 a.m.  The 21-year-old moped rider lost control of his vehicle while heading east on Dole Street near the intersection with Lower Campus Road.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was ejected onto the roadway.  He was hospitalized in critical condition.

Accident investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
