KAHULUI, HI – Maui Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred in Kahului earlier this month, according to Maui Now.
A 2023 Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycle and a 2023 Kia Soul were involved in the July 6 crash at the intersection of Wahinepio Avenue and KeĹŤpuolani Parkway.
The initial investigation indicated that the motorcycle rider was heading west on Wahinepio Avenue at about 5:20 p.m. and struck the front of the Kia, whose driver was turning east onto Wahinepio Avenue out of KeĹŤpuolani Park.
The motorcycle rider, identified as 33-year-old Riana Lee of Makawao, was ejected from the bike. She was pronounced dead after being taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. Police said Lee was not wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
The Kia driver, a 36-year-old woman from Kahului, and her passenger, a 59-year-old Wailuku woman, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Investigators are trying to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
