EAST HAWAII, HI – Big Island motorists were alerted to an accident affecting traffic in a portion of East Hawaiʻi on Wednesday afternoon, Big Island Now reported.
The incident occurred at about 6:16 p.m. on Hawaiʻi Belt Road, or Highway 19, near Kaʻawaliʻi Gulch. One lane of the roadway was closed and traffic was being contraflowed. The Hawaii Police Department advised motorists to avoid the area for at least an hour.
An update released at 7:17 p.m. stated that Highway 19 was reopened to all traffic. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
