HONOLULU, HI – The three victims of a fatal collision last month in Punaluu have now all been identified, Hawaii News Now reported.
The Honolulu medical examiner said that the third person to die as a result of the June 17 crash was 28-year-old Anela Yuen of Honolulu, who passed away June 25.
She was among four occupants of a vehicle heading south on Kamehameha Highway near Puhuli Street shortly before 9 p.m. Investigators said 28-year-old Katrell Plunkett was driving when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and crashed into another vehicle. The first vehicle overturned, killing Plunkett and one of her passengers, her 18-year-old cousin Miyanna Haiola.
Yuen and the other passenger, a 19-year-old woman, were hospitalized in critical condition. The other driver, a 17-year-old female, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Police said no one in the first vehicle was wearing a seat belt. The Honolulu Police Department believes speed was a contributing factor in the fatal crash. The investigation is ongoing.
