WAIKOLOA, HI – The Hawaii Police Department was dispatched to a deadly accident involving a motorcycle on Friday night, according to Big Island Now.
The crash occurred near the 2-mile marker of WaikĹŤloa Road (Highway 19) shortly before 9:16 p.m. A police investigation found that a man was riding a 2006 Honda VTX1300C motorcycle east in the westbound bicycle lane when he sideswiped a westbound Jeep Wrangler SUV.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and was identified as 45-year-old David Franklin Roland of Honokaa. The Jeep driver, a 45-year-old man, and his passenger, a 43-year-old woman, were not injured.
The Hawaii Police Department Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the cause of the collision.
