WAIANAE, HI – Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision in the Waianae area Thursday morning that left an elderly motorist seriously injured.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the crash took place on Hakimo Road near Paakea Road at about 11:50 a.m. It was reported to the department’s Traffic Division that a 91-year-old man was driving north when he made a left turn onto Paakea Road. The man’s vehicle was broadsided by an unidentified motorist who was heading southbound on Hakimo Road.
The 91-year-old, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. The other driver fled the scene, was last seen traveling southbound on Hakimo Road and has yet to be identified.
Police have to determine whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors in this collision.
