HONOLULU, HI – Three people were hospitalized after two vehicles collided on Daniel K. Inouye Highway Tuesday morning, Big Island Now reports.
Police said a woman was driving a 2022 Honda CR-V westbound at about 6:30 a.m. when she attempted to pass another vehicle near the 26 mile-marker and crossed over the center line. The Honda crashed head-on into a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The Honda driver, a 21-year-old woman, her passenger, a 21-year-old man, and the driver of the pickup, a 24-year-old man, were all seriously injured in the crash and taken to the Hilo Medical Center. All three are from Mountain View.
Speeding may have been a contributing factor in the accident according to police, who have opened a first-degree negligent injury investigation.
