wAILUA, HI – One driver was killed and another injured when their vehicles collided on Kauai on Tuesday evening, according to a KITV report.
The crash, which involved a 2019 Nissan van and a 2006 Honda sedan, took place on Kuamo’o Road near Melia Street at about 6:30 p.m. Kauai police said the driver of the Honda was heading eastbound when she crossed over the center line and crashed into the westbound Nissan head-on.
The Honda driver, identified as 25-year-old Moani Kalima, was pronounced dead after being taken to the Wilcox Medical Center. The van driver, a 50-year-old Kapa’a man, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigators said speed was believed to have been a contributing factor in the fatal wreck, which shut down Kuamo’o Road in both directions for about two and a half hours.
Toxicology results are pending to determine whether driver impairment was a factor in the incident.
