SOUTH KOHALA, HI – A head-on collision in South Kohala last week left both drivers hospitalized, according to Big Island Now.
The accident happened on Kawaihae Road near the 63 mile marker. Hawai’i Island Police said a man driving a 2003 Acura RSX eastbound crossed over the double solid yellow lines and collided with a 2017 Kia Forte.
The drivers were both transported to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oʻahu. The driver of the Acura, a 46-year-old Waimea man, was listed in critical condition. The driver of the Kia, a 41-year-old Waikoloa man, was in stable condition.
The crash is under investigation by the police department’s Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit.
