KAPOLEI, HI – Honolulu police said a head-on collision in Kapolei late Friday night sent both drivers to the hospital.
A report by KITV states that the wreck took place on Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue near Essex Road in the Kalaeloa area.
According to police, a driver was headed north at about 10:45 p.m. and crossed over the double solid yellow line. That led to a crash with a vehicle going south on Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue. The driver of the first vehicle, a 42-year-old man, was listed in critical condition at an area hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, police said.
The other driver, a 21-year-old man, was hospitalized in serious condition.
Investigators said alcohol was apparently a contributing factor in the incident, and they are still trying to determine whether speed also played a role.
