HONOLULU, HI – Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s help in their investigation of a traffic collision in Hilo last week.
In a news release, police said the incident took place Wednesday near the intersection of Kino‘ole and West Lanikāula Streets at about 5:30 p.m.
Witnesses reported seeing a man fall from the bed of a green pickup truck while it was traveling south through the intersection. According to police, the pickup may have collided with a red sedan but both drivers fled the scene before police arrived.
The man, a 66-year-old Kea‘au resident, sustained head and back injuries and was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where is in stable condition.
