HONOLULU, HI – A motorcyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Honolulu on Sunday night, police said.

According to KITV, the crash occurred on the northbound on-ramp to the H-2 Freeway at about 7:50 p.m.  Investigators said a 21-year-old man on a motorcycle was driving onto the ramp when he was struck from behind by a vehicle, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected onto the pavement.

The driver involved left the scene without stopping to help.  The motorcycle rider, who was wearing his helmet when the collision happened, was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital.

A search is now underway for the driver who struck him.  No details were available on the vehicle or the driver.

Three westbound lanes on the H-1 Freeway were closed for the crash investigation.
